The word Reiki means Universal Life force Energy. It is defined as being that power which acts and lives in all created matter. The word consists of two parts. The syllable REI descibes the Universal boundless aspect of the energy while the KI being the the Vital force energy which flows through all living beings. It is one of the highest forms of energy in existence. Everyone is born with Reiki, for it is the energy of life itself.
Throughout the history of mankind, healing methods have always existed that were based on the transfer of Universal, all prevading life energy – the same energy which brings forth all life in the universe and nourishes it. Thousands of years ago, the Tibetans already possessed a deep meaningful understanding ot the nature of SPIRIT, ENERGY and Matter and used this knowledge to heal their bodies, harmonise their souls and lead their spirit to an experience of Unity.
Reiki was re-discovered by MIKOAOMI USI in the latter part of the 19th century. He was born on the 15th august 1864 in the village of Yago, Southern Japan. He passed on march 9th 1926. Dr Usui had once run a small business that had failed. It left him not only in debt, but also with a desire to seek something other than material gain. He meditated regulary standing under a waterfall on Mount Kurama, a Holy Mountain upon which a temple is built. One Day whilst standing under the waterfall he had a mystical experience, and was given the Reiki attunement, and the symbols that went with it. It was Dr Usui who named the system of healing REIKI. Its origional Tibetan name was The Medicine Buddha. Dr Usui was not a Doctor in the conventional sense of the word and made it his lifes work to heal peoples body and mind. In those days in Japan his students called him Usui Sensei, which means Teacher.
The origional movement is called Usui Shiki Ryoho, which means The Usui Method of Healing. This is still practiced to this present day.
The body is more than just a collection of functioning parts. Since everything generates a frequency, the body and its organs have their own energy fields which are continually changing. All conditions of disease are rooted in our energy system. If our ” Life Force ” is blocked or low, we are more likely to become ill. But if it is high and flowing freely, we can maintain our health and well being.
Reiki Healing Energy provides means to balance the human energy fields ( Auras ) and energy centres ( Chakras ) to create conditions needed for the bodies healing system to function. The Reiki Practitioner assists the client to heal themselves Spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically by a simple laying of the hands in a series of positions. The Treatment takes place on a comfortable padded couch in a warm, relaxing and inviting atmosphere. The client is fully clothed and treatments can take anything from 45 minutes to 90 minutes. This all depends on the clients needs. The Practioner channels the Universal Life Force Energy allowing it to Flow to where it is needed to bring the energy centres into alignment.
